Don't get me wrong, I got a LOT completed today. Currently, I'm sitting at 18,656 steps, having walked 8.63 miles, 24 flights of stairs, and 132 oz of water...and counting. Got 3 loads of laundry done (soon to be folded), the baby down for a successful nap, 85 minutes on the treadmill, my 9MM completed, the latest episode of The Biggest Loser watched, a shower, some successful sale shopping at the grocery store, and a really yummy dinner made! My family wanted seconds, but there wasn't any left! I know for next time...make a bit more.
I didn't quite follow the meal plan I laid out, and I deviated a bit from the "no carbs" rule for Low Carb Days. But, because of Weight Watchers and the craving I needed to satisfy, there was no guilt attached, and I still feel internally great and satisfied.
Like I said before, flexibility in a lifestyle change is KEY! I planned to just have yogurt with bran cereal this morning...yeah didn't feel like that when I woke up. Ended up having my delicious new favorite...the berries, cereal, and cottage cheese concoction that I just love!
I really find it just so beautiful to look at in the morning, and even more exciting to eat. You can find the recipe on blog post "Sweet Success!"
I do feel like I accomplished much because I really DID do my workout while my son was napping. I've been working so hard to get this blog up and running that my workouts have been happening at night. But I feel good today... A victory for me in recognizing the changes with my body...7.0mph on the treadmill no longer gets me to my peak heart rate. A dual edged sword...it's awesome that my heart is getting so strong...but also intimidating that I need to run faster! I ran for 30 seconds at 8.0mph today...so I'm steadily getting there. Fingers Crossed.
Before my workout and a little after Little Man's breakfast, I planned for 2 hard boiled eggs (5sp...Don't ask me why they are higher in points than just 2 cooked eggs...I'm still trying to figure that out), a FLAVOR FAVE: Frigo Cheesehead Light String Cheese cheese stick (1sp) with some veggies. Wanna know something? I actually added the cheesestick on a whim because I realized I was below my allotted points per meal, and it was the perfect 1 point addition. The plate turned out pretty bland in color, so what do you think I used to make it more appealing? Yes! Ding! Ding! Ding! SPICES!
On my steamed carrots and mushrooms I've got my delicious Trader Joe's 21 Seasoning and on my eggs I've got just a TEENY bit of salt with McCormick Perfect Pinch Salad Supreme Seasoning. I bought the Salad Supreme Seasoning to try and use on my veggies because I couldn't find my usual veggie seasoning anywhere...Yeah, I do NOT recommend the Salad Supreme for veggies, but I DO recommend it for hard boiled eggs. It turned out DELICIOUS!
Third meal for the day rolled around right when I finished my workout. I planned for rotisserie chicken, melted cheese, and steamed veggies. Didn't feel like that either. Okay, this is REAL LIFE PEOPLE. I've learned that you need to LISTEN to your body...NOT fight it! So, what was I really wanting? One of my FAGE yogurt doubles...So I scanned each of the 3 I bought to see how many points they were and which I could eat for my lunch. I really wanted the Fage Total 2% with Honey, but that sucker is 9 smartpoints! I really hope it's worth it because I am going to eat it...but that's a Reset Day kind of meal. So I scanned the Fage Total 2% with Key Lime (5sp) and Fage Total 2% with Blood Orange (5sp)...and the winner was...
The Blood Orange! It was totally delicious and satisfied my craving. And don't forget, Little Man HAD to have a bite, or two, or three. I paired this delicious cup of Greek Yogurt heaven with a cup of raw celery paired with 1 The Laughing Cow Light Swiss Cheese Wedge (1sp...you know, the creamy stuff?) And that's all my body wanted at the time, and was still totally within the 6sp allotment I work for in my meals.
Yeah, sometimes your body does weird things! Ever heard of PICA? When people randomly have the urge to lick the sidewalk? Or their mouth waters at the sight of chalk? That's strange. If your body wants something a little differently than what you have planned AND IT'S STILL WITHIN REASON...let it happen. It's NOT the end of the world, if anything it's the beginning of learning to love yourself and love the "machine" you have been given!
My next meal rolled around 3:30pm. To which I enjoyed a 15-second-warmed-in-the-microwave Quest Bar, in Cookie Dough flavor with 2 T of PB2 with Rich Chocolate on top. Note to self, do NOT put the PB2 on the bar BEFORE you microwave it. It doesn't come out pretty and the peanut butter...well...dehydrates again. Didn't think that through. I still ate it and it still tasted like a just made chocolate chip cookie, but next time I will put the peanut butter on AFTER the bar has been heated in the microwave. I didn't take a picture because the peanut butter lump was, well, less than photogenic. So, Cookie got home around 2:45pm and offered to watch Little Man so I could shower (don't judge me...it was laundry day and I was still rocking my workout clothes). After taking a long (enough) hot shower, I sat down and ate my Quest Bar deliciousness. Once done, I then headed to the grocery store for killer deals on peanut butter, individual packets of seasoned tuna, pretzels, storage containers, and FAGE yogurt. Okay, the yogurt wasn't on sale...and I DID cringe a little at the price, but I needed a bigger tub...and so, there ya go. Not perfect, and that's okay.
So random question...Anyone have NBSS? That is to say Name-Brand Snob Syndrome? I inherited this from my mother, but after becoming a newlywed and trying to stick to a strict monetary budget, I have been healed. Now, I respect you all for buying name-brand products...Heck, there are STILL a few things I won't budge on. But, I noticed with the tuna I purchased today, the store-brand was on sale and was a better nutritional deal! I'm finding that if you can get the store-brands of products, you will save a little bit of money, and usually they taste just the same. Just a thought.
Dinner was a HIT!
We've got a handful of romaine lettuce with 1 T of FLAVOR FAVE: Marzetti Simply Dressed Light Balsalmic Vinaigrette Dressing (1sp), steamed green beans seasoned with FLAVOR FAVE: McCormick Perfect Pinch Vegetable Seasoning. Bragging moment: Cookie kept going on and on about how perfectly steamed those suckers were...gold sticker for me. They were so perfectly done, still crisp but soft at the same time, that Little Man ate every last piece of his green beans tonight! YES! These were steamed the old fashioned way...over the stove, with a pan, and shallow water. Then the blessed delicious concoction that I've named Smooth and Spicy Chicken. You take about 20 oz of FLAVOR FAVE: Costco All White Meat Rotisserie Chicken, about 1 c of Kirkland Signature Organic Salsa Medium (0sp), and 3 wedges of The Laughing Cow Light Swiss Cheese. When you divide that recipe up into 4 servings (5ounces = a serving) you get 4 smartpoints per serving. And it was definitely something I'll whip up again.
Not 30 minutes later I found myself hungry again..with 1 smartpoint left for the day, what would YOU have chosen to eat? I was quite hungry, knew I had gotten all my water in for the day so it wasn't thirst but clawing hunger... no weeklies to really spare...Cheese? Nothing? Nope. I satisfied myself with the rest of the green beans leftover from dinner and 1 oz of the Costco Cilantro Lime Shrimp (1sp).
There you have it. If you eat fiber one bars and low calorie snacks all day...of COURSE you will be hungry! Fill yourself with wonderful, beautiful, scrumptious food, and DON'T WORRY!! To be honest, I'll probably cook up some more veggies to eat here in a second...I don't know what's wrong with me, still hungry...go figure.
As good ol' Scar from the Lion King once said, "Stick with me, and you'll NEVER go hungry again!"
Happy eating,
Camille
