Every day we have to make choices. Sometimes, I just have to make so many decisions that by the time my husband gets home, the WORST thing he could ask me is, "what do you want to do?" I DON'T CARE, I WANT TO NOT MAKE ANY DECISIONS! Yeah, thank you meal planning. So, first day of the new week, I rise nice and early, get my 9MM completed and then run upstairs to make my breakfast. This breakfast was AMAZING! Again, I want to give credit where credit is due and guide you to take a look at Chris and Heidi Powell's newest book: Extreme Transformation: Lifelong Weight Loss in 21 Days. Their recipes are the bomb! Now, because I still follow smartpoints, many ingredients I switch to make the points fit in my day...but this is the beauty that was my breakfast this morning:
This beautiful breakfast deliciousness is a HC meal and only 6 smartpoints. YES! 6 SMARTPOINTS and it totally tasted like more! I used 1/2 cup blueberries, 5 small strawberries, 1 kiwi, 1/2 cup 2% Daisy cottage cheese (2sp), and 1/2 cup Kashi GOLEAN Crisp! Toasted Berry Crumble (4sp). Oh my HEAVENS! I took a picture to share with M&M and had to wait until 7, when I knew she would be up...just to share the deliciousness. I DEFINITELY will be making this again.
My midmorning meal consisted of a simple Peanut Butter Chocolate shake:
I created the same shake today but didn't have the hard boiled egg. There are two versions I've created...both I have on a LC day, it just depends on the points I use.
Higher Point Shake 7 sp: FLAVOR FAVE: GNC Total Lean Shake 25 in Rich Chocolate I use 1 scoop (2sp), 1 T Adams Natural Crunchy Peanut Butter (3sp), 1 T *psyllium fiber (1sp), 1 cup ice, 1 cup FLAVOR FAVE: Blue Diamond Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk (1sp). Put all ingredients into a blender and enjoy.
*psyllium fiber is basically natural roto rooter but still gentle on the insides. This can be found pretty much anywhere...except Walmart...maybe
Lower Point Shake 4 sp: GNC Total Lean Shake 25 in Rich Chocolate 1 scoop (2sp), 2 dry T of Chocolate PB2 (1sp), 1 T psyllium fiber (1sp), 1/2 c Blue Diamond Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk (0sp), 1/2 c water, 1 cup ice. Put all ingredients into a blender and enjoy.
My son loves both versions and I typically share this delicious meal with him every other day. I've tried to just give him his own cup of chocolate milk, but he won't buy it...So, sharing it is.
To try and get out and about a little grocery trip to the store ensued. I didn't think it would take very long, but lunch time rolled around quicker than I thought. Little Man wanted chicken nuggets. He has this little habit of loudly saying "mmmm" whenever we go out near restaurants...go figure? So, chicken nuggets from Burger King it is. They SMELLED delicious, but I had an hour until it was time to eat again, so I was able to resist for a time. As I go around the store looking for some products recommended by friends, the clock ticks closer and closer to my lunch time. There is no WAY I'll be able to get home in time...and my stomach is grumbling. So, good ol' Weight Watchers app comes out and I look up the points for Burger King chicken nuggets...14 smartpoints for 10 nuggets. My son was seriously hungry because there were 5 left. Yeah, I really hadn't had any and I was shocked how many he put away! So doing the math, it's 7 smartpoints for 5, which can technically be stripped down to 2 smartpoints per nugget. I don't like to spend typically more than 6 smartpoints on a meal in a day's time, so I needed to find something fast. Something with protein and easy to eat. Enter FAGE 0% Yogurt. M&M told me that this was her FAVORITE BRAND of Plain Greek Yogurt, and so I had to give it a try. I've been SEARCHING for a tolerable, plain Greek Yogurt...but all I could find were brands tasting like sour cream. Heebie jeebies to eat those suckers with anything other than potatoes. So, I go over to the yogurt section and find a raspberry mixer with the 0% FAGE Plain Greek Yogurt for 4sp. I decided to purchase this brand and get a spoon from Burger King. Yes, today was a LC and I wasn't supposed to have a carb with my protein, but I decided that this was a win because I resisted the chicken nuggets. If you are looking for a pretty yummy, plain Greek Yogurt, FLAVOR FAVE: Fage Total 0% Nonfat Greek strained yogurt is 3 smartpoints for a WHOLE CUP! I ate that delicious beauty, of course sharing with Little Man, in our parked car, enjoying every delicious bite. Upon returning home, I put Little Man down for his nap, promptly threw away the leftover chicken nuggets (too much of a temptation for me), put groceries away, and enjoyed 1 ounce of FLAVOR FAVE: Old Trapper Old Fashioned beef jerky for 2 smartpoints.
You'll find that structured flexibility will be your best friend. Structured in that you KNOW what kind of foods you need to look for and you KNOW what foods to avoid. Structured in that you SEARCH for foods that will give you the most nutrition because you KNOW it will give you the satisfaction your body is craving. Flexibility comes into play when meals may not happen the way you designed. I didn't make it home in time, but I didn't use that as an excuse to eat the rest of Little Man's chicken nuggets. I took control and found a protein packed yogurt and waited until I could enjoy it slowly.
3 hours later, as I was writing a blog post from earlier, I realized it was time for my fourth meal. Literally constructed this deliciousness in less than 2 minutes...I timed it!
FLAVOR FAVE: Cilantro Lime Shrimp from Costco. It can be found in the deli section. Upon purchase, separate and weigh the shrimp into little 1 ounce serving baggies. That way, in a pinch, you know you are spending only 1 smartpoint and have a great source of protein. I don't count the flavorings because it's literally lime juice, onion, and cilantro. So yummy. My mom asked me for the recipe for this shrimp and honestly, I love utilizing what is already made! Like this pre-seasoned shrimp, and the Pacific Cod Lime Pesto flavor (2sp a fillet), de-boned rotisserie chicken, (1sp for 3oz) and the FLAVOR FAVE: Good Foods Chunky Guacamole for 3 smartpoints an individual cup. It's official...Costco has become my best friend. This little salad had as much romaine lettuce as I wanted, with 1 oz Cilantro Lime Shrimp, about 1/3 cup FLAVOR FAVE: Kirkland Signature Organic Salsa, Medium Heat (0 sp for any serving size), and 2 T Goat Cheese (2 sp for 2 T). This has become my quick go-to salad that never ceases to satisfy.
The husband gets home and we make a quick run to another grocery store down the way for some groceries the previous store did NOT have, and I found my score for the month. Word to the wise...When you find a product that works for you, or you love it, or whatever...seriously STOCK UP because, if you have my luck, you won't be able to find it when you want it. I have been SEARCHING for this spaghetti sauce for about 2 weeks, and finally found it restocked at this second grocery store:
Yeah, yeah, yeah...I was the jerk who totally took every single bottle off of the shelf. FLAVOR FAVE: Prego Light Smart Traditional Spaghetti Sauce is only 2 smartpoints for 1/2 cup. Scrumptious on top of steamed broccoli, roasted spaghetti squash, and of course pastas, without the stress of points that you don't want to spend.
And finally, the last meal of the day...I was kind of rushed, so I couldn't get a picture, but it turned out well enough! 1 fillet of Pacific Cod Lime Pesto (3sp), 3/4 pre-seasoned brussel sprouts (2sp) [So YUMMY! I don't know why they get such a bad rap!], FLAVOR FAVE: Frigo Cheeseheads Light String Cheese 2 sticks for 2 smartpoints, and a steamed veggie mix of yellow squash, zucchini, and mini sweet bell peppers. My family had everything but the brussel sprouts...okay, I made them eat 3 small ones each, but they had pre-seasoned potatoes instead. The meal turned out great, and took about 20 minutes to prepare.
There you have it my friends, my first full 5 meal account for a LC day. Tomorrow is a HC day, and that means bring on the fruit! I'll keep you posted!
Find something good to eat!
Mangiamo!
