The First Step is ALWAYS the Hardest Part 2

Hello, hello, HELLO!
Okay, so you've taken your first step...You opened my blog! Just kidding...If anything, the first step you are wanting to take is finally making THIS YEAR the YEAR OF ALL YEARS! You are ready for a LIFESTYLE CHANGE! That's really the hardest part...admitting that change is vital, recognizing your demons and FACING THEM. Every footstep you will be taking this year is, and WILL BE, something to celebrate. Each new recipe you try, each new product you purchase...will be one step closer to positive, lifelong changes.

I'm big on change, but I'm bigger on small changes. Where I am today did NOT just happen one day. I didn't click my ruby heels (don't have any) and POOF! My kitchen worked for me. It took effort. My positive relationship with food took effort. Did I go full blow and do it all at once? Psh, no! This has been a life-long journey for me, and things haven't clicked together until recently. Thus, my bravery in deciding to write about it.

I guess I consider myself a foodie. I. LOVE. FOOD. I have ALWAYS loved food. Let me rephrase that, I have ALWAYS loved GOOD FOOD. So yes, I could be considered a food snob. I happily get that trait from my father. My dad is my go-to in the kitchen. If ever I need some tweaking, he's right there, just a text away. It was actually the recent move my family took to NC that has brought out my food snobbishness, and my new-found talent and creativity with the meals I eat. I'm discovering combinations I never would have EVER put together, trying new dishes, and cooking things by just "winging it"...all an amazing adventure I would have never embarked on had my parents NOT moved away. So, Thank You Dad, for your love and teaching in the kitchen...and also giving me this opportunity to test my wings. So far, I'm flying pretty well, but thanks for just being a text away.

Food is fuel, people, but that doesn't mean it has to TASTE like it. Which means broccoli CAN TASTE GOOD. Brussel sprouts, give them a shot! My in-law family HATES brussel sprouts, so I'm alone on that bench. Although, my father-in-law DID SAY that if I ever battered the little suckers, wrapped them in bacon and covered them in a vanilla syrup drizzle...he WOULD give them a shot. Haha, see where I'm coming from?? All I am saying is that changing your lifestyle doesn't mean that you still can't have the foods that you enjoy... it's just learning how to eat them wisely.

As for me..Pizza? Yeah, Love it! Along with cake donuts, decadent pieces of chocolate, granola, and milkshakes. I wanna throw out there that I have struggled with food my WHOLE LIFE. Things didn't really make sense until around 4 years ago, when I stepped inside Weight Watchers in my hometown and told myself I would do it THIS TIME. Yeah, 4 years of flip-flopping, and it wasn't until I had my miracle of a son that my resolve stuck. And it wasn't until about 3 months ago that I really have come to love food in a healthy way. No longer is it my buddy when I'm bored or even my bandaid when my heart and mind hurt. Food is my fuel...I'm going to give my Mustang body the best fuel it can get so that my Mustang can run the best that it can. Ya feel me??

I want to show you HOW delicious nutritious food can be and spins I've taken on recipes to make them fit my tastes without any extra calories. Sounds great right? I'll be including smartpoints values with my foods that I share because I've found that lots of people that I'm acquainted with are searching for those smartpoints with the foods they eat. (Smartpoints is the system that is used exclusively by WEIGHT WATCHERS, INC) Many recipes I've used come from Pinterest, and the way I eat my food has been highly influenced, if not molded and shaped, by the Carb Cycling Method I read about in Chris and Heidi Powell's books:
If you are interested, I would highly suggest you read them. I'm telling EVERYONE I know about them. These books have seriously changed my life, and my family's life. So, thank you Chris and Heidi Powell. (I'm friends with them on twitter, and I feel so famous whenever they have liked a tweet or something...Silly I know, but, you DO need friends to feel successful with every footstep you take! I've learned that from Chris and Heidi Powell, too.)

So my friends, there is a little about me and one footstep I've taken to get this show on the road. I've got quite a few pictures of foods I've already made and shared with friends, so stay tuned and I'll post a few just get us started.

Food is fuel, so let's make it taste good!
Mangiamo,
Camille
